...Leonato, Ben Vilhauer labors under some of the most difficult verse in the play. He makes the most of a drab and demanding part. Leonato's daughter, Hero (Janine Poreba), who keeps a low profile throughout the play, blossoms in the wedding scene. Her maidenly blush and swoon are entirely convincing. The audience can detect a difference in her after her trauma: the demure lass has aged into a deeper, more mature character...
...keep on shooting. Blam! Blam! In this year's heralded crop of low-budget films from tyro directors, the outlaw is in. Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs: gangsters pull a heist, then engage in a long therapy session of bitchery and carnage. Stacy Cochran's My New Gun: doctor gives his restless wife a handgun; audience waits for it to go off. Add two other, more seasoned directors of outlaw movies -- Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant) and Hal Hartley (Simple...
