...Sydow, alighting from the Ingmar Bergman films, certainly brings height and hauteur to the role - and if you're going for the Renaissance masters' vision of Jesus as a European, he might as well be Nordic. (Though, as I was reminded by TIME.com's Tony Karon, my guru in all things political, Jesus was a Semite; if he was tall, lank, bearded and dressed in flowing robes, as von Sydow is, the person he would have resembled most would be...Osama bin Laden.) The actor's iconographic superiority gives this Jesus the big frosty balls to tell his followers...
Part of the high-IQ fun of Minority Report--Spielberg's sharpest, brawniest, most bustling entertainment since Raiders of the Lost Ark and the finest of the season's action epics--is its mix of future and retro. Lamar Burgess (Max von Sydow), who might be a more benign John Ashcroft, and his protege John Anderton (Tom Cruise) run a system that prevents murders by arresting people before they commit them. Junior Dalibor Snyder paired with Nguyen at No. 3 doubles but lost 8-2 to Stephen DeSilva and Fredrick von Sydow. Coupled with a win at No. 1 doubles, the Vandals got themselves the only point they would get in the match...

...this film is. If she wants to typecast herself as eye candy, she'd better be careful: while on 35 in human years, she is already in her late forties in anorexic years. I can only assume that she was attracted by the same thing that convinced Max von Sydow to play Leland Gaunt in Needful Things, or Shirley MacLane to play Aurora Winters in Terms of Endearment: the chance to create a character of pure evil. Unfortunately, character isn't something this film is very good at. Fraser and Hurley come on mugging like criminals, caricaturing their parts instead...
