Taking place between Palm Sunday and Easter, Jesus Week seems like it will be one of the campus' biggest Christian events--bigger than Moses Month, Noahpalooza and their big fall contest: Guess What Hell is Like! (Closest answer wins a T-shirt). Jesus Week is a celebration of one of the most popular faiths on campus and in our country. Yet still, in my mind, anything called "Jesus Week" makes me think of religious fanaticism. (Drink the punch at one of their events; and you'll wake up a week later with a tattoo reading, "You Jews, you lose...

...taller than most other concertgoers, I had a good view of the scene. But there was not much to see. The crowd was almost entirely female sixteen and under. Two middle-schoolers clung to one another as they sifted through the crowd, proudly sporting matching No Doubt T-shirt and tight black pant outfits. At this moment, a horrible thought crossed my mind. What if No Doubt doesn't play instruments anymore? What if they just sit on stools, wear matching costumes (adorned with some individualizing accessory, of course) and sing love medleys? I was afraid this cotton candy crowd...

What I dislike is the sheer proportion of our lives we have given over to advertising. Hardly a T-shirt in America exists without a logo or slogan emblazoned on it. At last week's Ericsson Open (named for the cellular phone company) tennis tournament in Miami, the net was marked with a Mercedes-Benz symbol at each end. This was the first time I had seen this particular type of selling, though the behind...

...didn't help that despite the extravaganza of stage decor, lead singer Mry Mary looked like he had decided to throw on a tatty T-shirt before coming on stage. It took the drum 'n' bass beats of the single "Heart Go Boom" to finally get the crowd going, and even then, the transition into a slower song killed the momentum. Another single, "Stop the Rock," came next, but the rock was already stopped: like a weak bomb, the crowd bounced slowly but never exploded. The poker-faced security people might have smiled inside, faced as they were with...

...kind of tight up top. And then there's these sandals that I love, and found in some New York shop and I wear them everyday even when it is cold out. I hate heavy material, I hate layers. My best friend, Suzanne, gave me her old Harvard t-shirt, and it's my new favorite thing. I get yelled at for just walking around in a t-shirt and jacket...
