...wants with their Harvard portfolios and their pinstriped suits. Of all the transformations that Harvard students undergo during their time here, the most striking is their abandonment of ambition. Each freshman class, after all, is clotted with valedictorians, class presidents, math league champions, and serious athletes. There is a tacit consensus as early as freshman year that talking about these sorts of accomplishments is in very poor taste. So we’re all accomplished: Get over yourself. If you want to quietly work towards a four-point, fine, and bully for you, pal, but for heaven?...
...address Iraqis' overriding concern with security. The strong favorite according to most analysts is the United Iraq Alliance, a group led by Shiite religious parties (although including a wide range of mostly Shiite independents) grouped together at the behest of Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, and campaigning with his tacit support. To counter its chief rival's use of TV, the UIA looks to rely on grassroots organization around the mosques, and on endorsement by the clergy - and given the fact of Iraq's Shiite majority, whose relative weight will be amplified by the anticipated widespread Sunni boycott...

The left traditionally screams that the party lost because it didn't feed enough red meat to its base, but that argument doesn't work this time--the base turned out in droves. Instead, there seems to be a tacit understanding that far too many members of the Democrats' supposed natural constituency, the middle class, voted Republican because of national security and "values" issues. There is hope that Reid may help the party decode those issues...
...West Wing, Crossing Jordan, Third Watch, Scrubs, Without a Trace, The O.C. and, most recently, LAX. (It has also sneaked onto the iTunes Top 100.) Some shows use just a snippet, but The West Wing and Without a Trace let it play for minutes over their season finales, a tacit admission that neither the writers nor the actors could convey their characters' emotions as well as Buckley. It's proof that in his brief life, Jeff Buckley did achieve some kind of grace...
