Many speakers took a more pointedly political tack, deriding President Reagan and insisting that Government spending on nuclear arms be shifted to social services. Activist Randall Forsberg, referring to last week's Senate Foreign Relations Committee rejection of a freeze resolution, said, "We will remember that vote in November." Other speakers remembered August 1945: survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings spoke in Japanese, translated for the crowd, of their firsthand visions of "a living inferno...
...CARP is gearing up at Harvard The political tack failed at Yale, love, sex, and morality are apparently the new directives from on high While we give some credence to the ability of Harvard students to see the guile through the innocent acts of CARP underlings, perhaps a chapter of SCROD in Cambridge wouldn't hurt. It helps notify CARP how ridiculous all their plays and plans really are and shows them that they just can't win for so we like to believe). CARP and Rev. Congress has fallen into other bad habits. Knowing how hazardous and time consuming it is to push a controversial bill through the multilayered committee system, legislators increasingly tack their pet proposals onto major bills as riders. Right-wing advocates of so-called social issues have placed anti-school busing and pro-prayer riders onto a number of Justice Department funding bills. There is even an antiabortion rider attached to this year's appropriations bill for the Postal Service. These irrelevant amendments rarely survive both houses, but legislators waste valuable time in the process of shedding them...

Working at night for secrecy, Thomas investigated Kimbolton Castle in Cambridgeshire, 21 miles north of Ampthill Park, where Henry's abandoned Queen died in 1536. The castle, now a girls' school, yielded nothing. Then Thomas took a shrewd tack. He researched Williams' own background for links, figuring rightly that the author would have buried the pendant in a place he knew. Ultimately, however, success was due as much to luck as to deduction. Driving past Ampthill Park one afternoon, near a spot where Williams had once lived, Thomas...
Students and Faculty members have now scrutinized the long record of undergraduate ineffectuality for more than two years, and have come up with a new form of government for next fall that has a fighting chance for effectiveness. By voting to tack on a $10, completely refundable surcharge to undergraduate term bills, and to centralize representation on student-Faculty committees, students could have a previously unheard and unified voice with financial support...
