...problems with India's 15 million Sikhs have clearly been worsened by the attack on the Golden Temple. The fighting caused a coalescence of Sikh moderates and extremists, vastly complicating the task of future negotiations. It also caused fissures within the Indian army, in which the tall and warlike Sikhs have always played a disproportionately large role. According to an official spokesman last week, the interrogation of Sikh prisoners indicated that 17 retired Indian army officers above the rank of colonel had been involved in extremist activities. Of these, two officers had collected large sums of money from people...
...Indiana's Republican Governor Robert Orr: "He takes the high road in that happy and enthusiastic way of his; people can't help but respond positively." Agrees Rahm Emanuel, a Democratic political consultant in Illinois: "He shows a confidence just in the way he stands. He is tall in the saddle. Jabbar is a beautiful player. Too quick and agile to be so tall and angular, he seemed to have been designed originally as a natural monument to defiance, constructed out of high-tension wires, never to be touched. None of those newfangled candy mix-ins. This is purism at its best. Brigham's (1420 Mass. Ave.): Chain-store decor aside, Brigham's boasts generous portions, thick frappes, and low prices, though sophisticates sneer. Steve's (34 Church St.): The original, legendary Steve's (in Somerville) was reputed to be worth the lengthy trek. The fun may have gone out of Steve's now that there...
...Harvard Pizza, is McIntyre and Moore Booksellers (30 Plympton St.), with used and rare books. Another place, for those who tire of prose, is the famous Grolier Book Shop (6 Plymton St.), alive since 1927. "Minimum of prose" reads the sign in the window, and they speak the truth. Tall bookcases house poetry collections, little magazines, books about poets and their works, and casettes of readings. Special orders and mail orders can be done here as well. The Harvard Book Store Law Annex (12 Plympton St.) is a must of the legal eagle in your life...
