Along with a body of original literature, the game has earned its share of controversy. Measured by its body count, GTA3 is pretty tame--compared with, for example, Space Invaders--but all that freedom can lead to some vicious scenarios. You can run over pedestrians if you so desire, then shoot the paramedics who show up and loot their bodies for spare change. (Then you can spend your ill-gotten gains on one of Liberty City's many prostitutes.) Video games are protected by the First Amendment, but when GTA3 was released in Australia, the government pulled it from shelves...
...gotta love Halloween at Harvard. I mean, it’s the only excuse for the otherwise tame female population to get dressed up like hos. Whereas Halloween used to be about kids disguising themselves as Batman and Wonder Boy to excite the toddler that lives across the street, now it’s about chicks disguising themselves as Naughty Nurse and Catholic School Girl to excite the toddler that lives in my pants. It’s the only annual slut-tacular celebration of skank not confined to the Owl Club...
...Note that Ludacris’ words are extraordinarily tame compared to Foxy Brown’s verse on “What’s Your Fantasy (Remix),” where she demands “li-li-li-lick me from my ass to my clit.” We agree that either of us attempting a sexual union with Foxy Brown would end up dead or, at least, blinded from the eyebrows down...
...over the border in Pakistan, Musharraf was stung by the success of Kashmir's poll. He loathes the prospect of Kashmiri acceptance of India's rule, which the successful election suggests. (State-run Pakistan TV dubbed it "a farce and a sham.") In his own election, he managed to tame Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party and Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League. Together, they won less than half the places in the 342-seatNational Assembly. But unofficial estimates put voter turnout for the polls at around 30%?less than in Kashmir. And Musharraf failed to anticipate the rise...
...argues that its documentary and public-service work is very relevant. And it argues that its tame entertainment programming is valuable because it's free and uncommercial. But tax money aside, nothing is free here--just look at the pledge drives, the corporate crypto ads, and the costume dramas aimed at aging, risk-averse members' fat wallets. PBS has taken a few chances, like the fine edu-reality series Frontier House and the well-meaning if melodramatic Hispanic drama American Family. But you can't remake Forsyte without inviting the question: Thirty-three years later, is PBS still worth...
