...little more than a month ago, insiders were saying the Dean movement had all the resonance of a temper tantrum. Even activist Democrats, the line went, would eventually come to their senses and realize that this antiwar one-noter from liberal Vermont was out of synch with the politics of a post-9/11 world. And what about the Internet-driven rabble that packs his events, those 68,000 who have signed up for yet another of Dean's "Meetup" events at 340 spots across the country this Wednesday? ...left the gathering the sheik heard mutterings from young men and responded with, what to us seemed a baffling and melodramatic temper tantrum, casting his headdress on the ground, covering his head with ashes from an outside grill while the dismayed young men rushed to reassure him. My interpreter later explained that the youths said they should kill the foreigners, Kurdish interpreter included, rather than ask for their help. Dershkowitz’s resemblance to the ticketless guy in those moronic Fandango commercials was noted by 60 percent of observers. His status as a somehow more threatening version of the Satanic leprechaun in the Leprechaun movies was noted...

While that can be hard when an actively manic child is still throwing a tantrum two hours after lights-out, a combination of mood-stabilizing drugs and an enforced routine may even bring some of the most symptomatic kids into line. Teens, who are expected to do a lot more self-policing than younger children, must take more of this responsibility on themselves, even if that means a no-excuses adherence to a no-exceptions curfew...
