...science-y” disciplines, these courses integrate the aspects of biology and chemistry that you’ll actually find in the real world—not just in a lab or a theorist’s head. Because of the courses’ interdisciplinary nature, they are taught by a group of fully-tenured faculty members (five for 1a, four for 1b) who, despite all their prestige, are actually interested in teaching and talking to students. The extensive teaching staff for both classes produced a balanced compromise between labs, problem sets, and midterms. Yes, there are two midterms...

...applications. Or because they are legally insane.) They are routinely excluded from the grading curve in order “to be fair” to the 17 alums. The greatest drawback of the 20/30 classes is that Garry Procter is no longer teaching them. Professor Matthew Shair, who taught 27 last year, will take over 20 this spring. Not to worry—he has certainly (read: hopefully) learned by now that copying notes from a binder to the board and reading them aloud is not an effective teaching style. Psychology 1703, “Human Sexuality,” must be the only class where a TF could start off her first section by asking, "So, who had sex last night?" and actually get a show of hands. ...year marks the first time that Ec10 students can elect to take just one semester of the previously indivisible year-long course. Ec10’s infamous structure, however, appears to be here to stay: the course only meets for lecture about ten times a semester and is primarily taught in section by graduate students. Competent TFs are a rare treat in Ec10, so much so that one popular section leader from the Law School drew nearly 100 desperate undergrads to her final review session last spring...

...includes works from Sigmund Freud, Michel Foucault, and Judith Butler. The class also features numerous film screenings. Perhaps the most popular WGS class from last year was WGS 1151, “Sex, Rights, and Stereotypes: Queer Culture In America From Stone Wall to Gay Marriage,” taught by the charismatic Timothy McCarthy of Lit and Arts A-86, “Protest Literature” fame. The course examined queer America through the lens of popular culture. The boys from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” would be proud. Disappointingly, the course...
