What did the four fab Englishmen have to do with all these American crises? We have no idea, and neither does the script. ...peripatetic week. On Tuesday I saw my last two features at the Venice Film Festival. On Wednesday I flew back to New York, and that evening I caught a screening of Julie Taymor's Beatles movie, Across the Universe. Julie Taymor ? best known for her Lion King on Broadway but also director of the films Titus, Frida and the forthcoming Beatles pastiche Across the Universe ? has condensed her zazzy Zauberflote, which premiered at the Met in 2004, into a 100min., kid-friendly Magic Flute. And Anthony Minghella (The English Patient, Cold Mountain, the current Breaking and Entering) did a rapturously...

Everywhere in the culture, meanwhile, children's entertainment is crossing over to adult audiences and gaining mainstream cachet, from Harry Potter books to Pixar animation. London...
