Lacking the technical facilities of Hollywood studios the producers of F. P. 1 were forced to photograph their scenes against real backgrounds. Early scenes, purporting to show the construction of the sea-drome, were taken amidst the teeming activity of one of Germany's largest shipyards For the completed seadrome a floating dock was borrowed, effectively remodeled, towed out into the Baltic. There it did much to substantiate the arguments against real seadromes. In the first storm encountered it snapped its anchor cables. For the flying deck scenes, for which the dock was unsuited, the company chartered...
...Vince, to whose Salle d'Armes Mr. Locke sent her, saw very little promise in Dorothy; her knees wobbled, she had poor coordination. She practiced three hours at a time, three times a week, became a close friend of Marion Lloyd who, another Vince pupil, has the soundest technic among U. S. woman fencers. Dark-haired, calm, utterly unromantic, Fencer Locke trains on as much chow-mein as she can eat, never loses her temper in a bout. In her autograph collection she prizes most highly the signature of Helene Mayer, the German Army officer's daughter...
Californians trust Professor Lipman ("Lippy" to students). He is one of the most learned men at Berkeley, and eminently practical. About ten years ago he became interested in curing iron deficiency in fruit trees by injecting certain liquids into the trunks. His technic has saved many a tree. Later he showed lumbermen how to poison trees destined for marine construction or telephone poles. The poisons repel molds, fungi, borers and other wood-destroying agents...

What I was really talking about, of course, was the absurdity of regarding any man as educated who does not understand both that religion, like science and art, is a racially valid technic for the discovery of truth, and also something of what that technic involves. Even an undergraduate journalist ought, it seems to me, to have been able to see that the two contentions are quite distinct...
...craning millions. Proudest witness of the spectacle was David Sinton Ingalls, Assistant Secretary of the Navy in Charge of Aeronautics, the Navy's prime War ace, whose earnest purpose it is to impress citizens with the necessity for, and perfection of, the Navy's air technic...
