Last week Britain's General Sir Gerald Templer, Chief of the Imperial General Staff, flew into Ankara for urgent talks with Turkish leaders. "I am here as head of the British army," said General Templer. "If the issue of Cyprus is brought up, I will deal with it in my limited province as a military man."
