...smooth voice that makes me wonder why Fleetwood Mac ever had to hire Stevie Nicks. Unfortunately, the album starts with its weakest song. “Great Day” overplays call and response between vocals and guitar. This bluesy shtick is downright irritating when combined with the poppy tempo of the song. Confusion only grows when the repeating chorus, “It was a great day,” changes in the end to “It wasn’t such a great day” in a transition so random it actually kind of fits...

...band farther into death metal than they’ve ever been before. Which is to say, “Death Magnetic” is one of the most experimental, lush albums you’ll ever find that has anything to do with death metal. Even when the tempo grows intense and threatening, the sonic texture stretches back through layers and layers of guitar and bass, underscoring the vast canvas of Lars Ulrich’s drum set. Newcomer Robert Trujillo is the rare bassist who can keep up with both Ulrich’s punishing tempos and Kirk...

...received a pass from co-captain Nicole Rhodes, made a quick turn, raced down the flank, and struck the ball into the corner of the net with her left foot. Baskind leads Harvard with three goals and eight points this season. ...both ends of the pool. The No. 6 seed proved relentless in transition, scoring the first four goals, including a shorthanded breakaway. Tune was responsible for both of Harvard’s scores and Connolly managed eight saves, but the co-captains could not stop Hopkins’ furious tempo. The Blue Jays built a 9-1 first half lead with several 6-on-5 opportunities before employing ball-control tactics to preserve the victory.—Staff writer Max N. ...viewers should approach this western as they do a painting: at a thoughtful tempo. The scenery is meant to be savored by the viewers, not chewed by the actors. Much of the action in a western is in what would be downtime in any other genre. The pause before a man speaks suggests the world of options available to someone facing an armed varmint in a desolate space. The tensest scene in any western - two men staring each other down before the final shoot-out - is, in modern movie terms, a moment when nothing happens...
