...West Bank's economy, some 25 Israeli bank branches have opened in the area, and last week the Israeli pound was made legal tender along with the Jordanian dinar. The Jeru salem government has virtually adopted the former Jordanian budget for the West Bank, including development plans for road building and other public works totaling $5,600,000 this year. All former local officials, including all the West Bank mayors and most city employees, have stayed on their jobs under Israeli rule. ...British comedy The Family Way (TIME, July 14). Playing a young newlywed, she gives an affecting portrayal through a difficult and delicate metamorphosis of moods. She is vulnerable as the courted virgin, bemused and forgiving at her raucous wedding reception, exquisitely graceful in a kitchen bathtub scene, and ineffably tender when her husband proves temporarily impotent. What is most telling about her talent is that she has survived many cloying movie roles without picking up Hollywood tricks or mannerisms; the keynote of her performance is an overpowering honesty...

The composer has written the girls a soprano duet that recalls Strauss's lyricism. Here and elsewhere, the voices of Radmilla Vasovic Bokacevic and Biserka Cvejic are nicely matched. Among the male singers, Dusan Popovic as Andrei...
...people under 30 know who wrote these lines, but the perceptive will readily date them from the 1920s. They have that slightly posed air of gay gallantry and tender toughness that marked the era of "But Jesus we had fun." After four decades, its heroes and heroines look as comically self-conscious as silent-movie characters, trying to gather their rosebuds in vigorous deadpan. What comes through most clearly is the sentimentality lurking beneath. Hemingway, hard as nails on the outside but soft as a baby impala on the inside, was an archetypical son of the era. And Dorothy Parker...
