The idea of a gay Italian-French-Canadian has a lot of comic potential; in the end, unfortunately, the director is too overwhelmed to stop making jokes and tell what could have been a winning story...
Inconsistencies aside, the songs are catchy and filled with tension, with gorgeous arrangements reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen and The Smiths. Yet some go too long (like the fourteen-minute monstrosity “Lately”), meandering about without purpose or resolve.
