The show has a loose, familiar, indie feel, in part because Silverman's real sister Laura plays her TV sister, the rest of the cast are longtime friends (along with her dog), and the pilot was shot in her apartment, which was re-created on a set for the series after, Silverman says, her landlord kicked the production...

...those graduates is Verone Kennedy. Although coincidentally we have the same last name, our lives could not have been more different. Verone was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, a tough neighborhood best known for its racial tension in the early 1990s. His father ran a dry-cleaning store and struggled to break even. His mother was the director of a social-services center. "Lots of people had guns or knives," he says. "You had to think twice about where you were going and what you were wearing." There was no Oprah performance filled with wordplay on "audacity" and "hope," no tension-filled live broadcast, no Monday Night Football gag, just the oddly flat, open-collared video announcement; perhaps he's already trying to tamp expectations downward, after so many weeks in the hype machine. The substance of his announcement leaves little doubt that he's sincerely interested in running, and the polls suggest that even if the YouTube clip was a little disappointing, he benefits from people...
