...from Iran to North Korea will do much to determine whether peace and prosperity prevail in Asia and beyond. But high-level U.S. talks with China in recent years have been sporadic, at best. The heaviest hitters in President Bush's Administration have been preoccupied with the war on terror and the deepening fiasco in Iraq. Aside from last April's promise by China's President Hu Jintao to try to expand market access for U.S. goods, there has been scant evidence of constructive dialogue on trade issues...

What's going on here is a decoupling of the world economy from world politics, where the bad news keeps piling up like the mangled victims of terror and mayhem in Baghdad. Iran, thanks to the weakening of American power, is on a roll, and so is Syria, which less than two years ago was shown the door in Lebanon. North Korea has exploded a nuclear device, and Russia is back to its imperial ways, except that Putin is much more effective with his pipelines than was the Politburo with its tanks and missiles. The leftist group was dismantled in 2002 as Greece cracked down in the run-up to the 2004 Olympics. Its suspected leader and other leading figures have been imprisoned in Greece's maximum security prison since 2003. More recently, however, a string of copycat terror cells have emerged, targeting government buildings and foreign business interests...

...that brings knowledge and understanding," Levy said. Not all reviews have been damning. Writing in the weekly magazine Der Spiegel, critic Daniel Haas praised Levy for "dar[ing] the outrageous.... The film is not only about Hitler but about the way in which we are dealing with the brown terror," he said. In fact, after more than a half century of struggling with Hitler's calamitous legacy, Germans do appear to be taking a slightly less tortured view of their past. Downfall, a serious treatment of Hitler's last days, appeared in cinemas in 2004. And this month, the stage...
