Yannatos’ career has been similarly defined by the two paths. He has conducted the HRO since 1964, while composing a sizable catalogue of works, many of which were premiered by the HRO. While only history can tell whether Yannatos will stand the test of time as a composer, his “Cello Concerto,” which received its world premiere on the concert, was at least the work of an assured and seasoned orchestrator, with colorful and dazzling passages at every turn.
