Their passionate love-making loses the tone of sheer desperation that makes it so sad in the text. Its detachment from reality becomes more of a reflection on the lovers themselves than a commentary on the painful necessity of fantasy...
...Seven Wagons is not one of Williams' greatest short plays. As in many of his shorter works, he tends to overstate his point. But Brodesser speaks with such conviction that Flora's penchant for repetition seems more like a necessary part of her personality than a flaw in the text. By the time she delivers her final monologue, in which she turns her handbag into a child just so she has something to love, it is very hard to listen without wanting to stand up and help...
...lightning, although purists might have viewed this aesthetic exhibition as more of a reliance than a means to an end. Although Judy Budnitz '95 was a VES and English concentrator, her most recent work and first novel, If I Told You Once, reads more like a disjointed Folklore and Mythology course text. Before embarking on the novel, she commented, "I have to outline it before I start, which kind of takes the fun out of it." This is close to what actually happened, for while her collection of short stories, Flying Leap, received critical acclaim, If I Told You Once lacks the candor, unexpected plots and zany characterizations of her first work.
