...Marshal Herskovitz's new period piece. As Veronica Franco, a lower-class beautiful girl turned high-class court prostitute, McCormack leads a well-assembled cast in this slightly flawed--yet worth-seeing--film about life as a courtesan in 16th century Venice. Prefaced by both opening and closing textual summations, the film clearly advances a social agenda--in this respect, it slides by with an average grade. The cleverness of the rest of its script and the excellence of the acting, however, save Dangerous Beauty and makes it shine. --Marc Resteghini...

Dvorak was ambitious about securing a place for himself in the symphonic tradition: his Eighth Symphony, in G, was his first undeniably great shot at entering the pantheon. We skeptics, however, believe that all books are written ultimately by man. We have a simpler explanation: what men or women put into a book, other men or women can take out of a book--be it murky wordplays about the future ("assassin will assassinate"), Euclid's geometry, clues to Agatha Christie murders ("the butler did it") or a recipe book in any language ("add a pinch of salt"). ...Supreme Court has become accustomed to deciding cases, not based on the text of the Constitution, but rather on what the justices think the meaning of Constitution should be (a question betraying a Scalian mind set)? I understood his answer to be, "There is no such thing as a 'textual' argument, or one that is self-evident from the text. Rather, the Constitution is an evolving document that must be understood in relation to changing circumstances...
