Scott McLeod '80 also was overcome by pain as he walked the last 8.5 miles before sprinting the final 200 yards to notch a time of 4:45. A defensive end on the varsity football team, McLeod caught the running bug from his roommate, Thad McNulty, former captain of the cross-country team, and from the football team's 12-minute running drills.
