Most Holy Father, I write to thank you for allowing the Irish bishops to move the feast of St. Patrick to March 15. March 17, as you know, falls on Holy Monday this year. Obviously, it would be a tragedy if the most cherished holiday of the Irish—first among all the nations of Christendom—were cancelled. It saved Britney Spears (in “Everytime”), Kelly Clarkson, and now Ashanti from horrible fates—and where would we be without them? Ashanti’s video is an upgrade, but ultimately, it’s nothing new. It?...

...often with the same encounters. The big stage of presidential politics, which for obvious reasons is covered by the press, is where a lot of it is laid out. But that is not what gets me up in the morning. It is the important intimate encounters with people who thank me for helping their children get health care or people who grab my hand and say, "Please bring my son home from Iraq" or ask me to help with a problem they have. That is what I feel is real and is part of what I love about public service...
