...Nation published an article from the pen of Ernest Gruening who has been in Mexico during the past four months. He gives an illuminating account of conditions in Mexico, although the entire article is somewhat of a tirade against United States imperialism. " Too late," is Mr. Gruening's theme. If the United States had recognized President Obregon when he came into power in 1920 "ihe whole question would have been on a different footing. McGraw is naïvely convinced that college training is ideal for the professional ball player. In fact, this idea is almost the central theme of his book. He dwells on it so fondly that the uninitiated might suspect the colleges existed solely for the purpose of producing intelligent ball players. Unconsciously Mr. McGraw has thus produced a piercing satire, far more brilliant than Mr. Edison's, against our reverent institutions of the so-called higher learning...

...VEGETABLE-F. Scott Fitzgerald-Scribner ($1.75). An Alger theme Fitzgeralded through three acts of a mildly amusing play. Jerry Frost was one of the 9,999 who, according to insurance statistics, would fail to be self-supporting at the age of 70. A meek and henpecked failure, he cherished two secret ambitions 1) to be President of These States or, failing that, 2) to be the very best postman in the world. Synthetic gin enabled him to gratify both desires, the first in what psychoanalysts call " the dream-life," the second in reality. In the act, where Frost thinks...
