For weeks after the audition, Ashong didn't hear from the studio. It didn't really matter, he figured. He'd just go back to school, finish up his thesis, a musical on identity issues facing Africans and Afro-Americans, and graduate.
Graham Huggan, associate professor of English and American literature and language and of history and literature; Brian J. Hall, assistant professor of economics; Colleen M. Cavanaugh, professor of biology; and Daniel L. Schacter, professor of psychology, were commended for their dedication to their students and specifically their thesis advisees.
"I can only hope to bring to my work the same wit and enthusiasm that Professor Schacter brings to his," wrote the student who nominated Schacter, recalling one Saturday morning when Schacter delayed a family outing in order to deliver his comments on the student's thesis drafts personally.
According to her Senior Thesis Adviser, Richard S. Horowitz, Remus was extraordinarily motivated about her academics. "Without any doubt, she was the most disciplined student I have ever taught here," he wrote in an e-mail.
"I know I had problems this year with writing a thesis and having to return books in two weeks," said Julissa Reynoso '97. "I always forgot that [Lamont] had a different process than Widener, and so I always had late fees."
