At the start, 1901 took the lead, securing five runs, mainly through a base on balls, five hits, and two errors. Throughout the rest of the game 1901 continued to bat heavily, and in the third inning forced Watson to retire in favor of Lewis. St. Marks's three runs were all brought in by Lewis's timely hits.
