...hammer throwers of the Mott Haven squads, I saw a serious accident narrowly averted. Perhaps not much thought was given to it by any one, but the fact remains that a passer-by who was looking in another direction came so near having his brains dashed out by the thrown hammer that it made my hair stand on end. Now, this hammer throwing is done at a place where people are constantly passing and without any extra precautions. It is made more dangerous by the fact that a large indiscriminate crowd congregates about Holmes Field watching the Mott Haven...
