...never hear about people like Sheila Horan until something truly terrible happens. But after more than two decades in the FBI's secretive national-security division, she knows her way around terrorism. And now she has been thrust into one of the most difficult manhunts in her career, as on-the-scene boss of the investigation in East Africa that the U.S. hopes will one day nail down the names and addresses of the terrorists who ruthlessly massacred 257 innocents and wounded more than 5,000 in the twin bombings of the U.S. embassies...

...makes no difference. Whether you live or die here is entirely a matter of chance, not survival tactics. Spielberg's handheld cameras thrust us into this maelstrom, and his superb editing creates from these bits and pieces a mosaic of terror. We see as the soldiers see, from belly level, in flashes and fragments, none more vivid than the shot, rendered almost casually, of a soldier staggering along, carrying his severed arm--the struggle against mortality encapsulated in what amounts to a sidelong glance...

...whole, do we really see boys, as both claim, as toxic? Are we really surprised by Pollack's declaration that boys feel? Is it indeed a "well-kept secret," as his study finds, that boys count girls among their closest friends? Most important, do most mothers really thrust their young sons out into the world unprotected? And if so, might they be doing the same with their girls? Oddly, the hard evidence for this key thesis is absent from Pollack's study and book...

Dupri's productions tend to be uncluttered, with clear melodic thrust; his particular talent is in creating songs that sound of the moment but are so sturdily constructed that they may be radio staples for years to come. Five songs he co-wrote and co-produced are currently on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart. His best recent work includes Usher's sleek album My Way, whose songs were almost all co-written and co-produced by Dupri, and the female vocal group Xscape's CD Traces of My Lipstick, which features several elegantly funky Dupri-penned songs...

Warhol was the neon sign of the times, flashing SEX, GOSSIP, DEATH. His hunger for the machinery and trappings of fame thrust him beyond painting into filmmaking, with titles like Flesh and Trash; into music, fronting Lou Reed's rock band, the Velvet Underground; into publishing the gushing society organ Interview; even into the odd cameo appearance on TV. All these activities orbited the low-gravity center of the artist, with his blank stare and his wan voice that uttered such sibylline aphorisms as "I want to be a machine" and, most quoted of all, "In the future everyone will...
