...sensation R. Kelly faced child-pornography charges after being accused of making a sex tape with a teenage girl. Genson won the case, getting Kelly acquitted of all 14 counts. And in a 2003 verdict that stunned some court observers, Genson teamed with three other top-tier lawyers to win the acquittal of Bruno Mancari, the brother of a well-known Chicago-area auto dealer, on charges he murdered a childhood pal 18 years earlier...

...extraordinary public citizen [Dec. 15]. Instead of noting that TIME once listed him as one of America's five best governors, Scherer identified Huckabee as a "Baptist pastor with crooked teeth," and "Huckabee's America" sounds like something from The Beverly Hillbillies. Those who dismissed Huckabee as a third-tier candidate when he continually argued for energy independence, infrastructure spending and better preventive health care should take a closer look at Barack Obama's priorities. Among them: Capitol Federal Financial in Kansas (up 41%, to $43.65), Tompkins Financial...

They're not exactly household names, which is why it's so weird that second-tier Cabinet appointees get so much attention initially; they rarely make much news once they're in office. That's why I've proposed shrinking the Cabinet, which has doubled in size yet probably halved in importance since the Kennedy Administration. But that's one thing Obama does not appear likely to change. Judging by his appointments thus far, the Cabinet will continue...

...There are no figures yet on what impact the financial crisis has had on that top-tier trend. But after so many years of heady growth, many rich Russians still seem to take the boom times for granted. Kazakov's wife's bravado is shared by many. "Some people are afraid, but I am not," says businessman Alexander (who asked that only his first name be used), as he strolls along the deck of a 58-ft. yacht wearing a shiny leather coat with a fur collar...
