Even at this late date a football song competition can be made of real advantage if men of musical ability will give time to the composition of effective tunes and appropriate words. Most of the songs which we now have are the product of former competitions of the same sort, and though they are excellent, there is a real need for several new songs of singable quality...

...from the application of old tunes to new texts, we would suggest that the Song Committee might do well to conduct its competition in two classes, requiring both music and words to be original in the one class and in the other considering songs with familiar music. As the time for rehearsing new songs after the close of the competition will be very short, this method might increase the effectiveness of the music both at mass meetings and at games. ...Haven, Conn., October 19, 1909.--The work of the university team was very encouraging today, as four touchdowns and a field goal were scored against the second. Coy was in the scrimmage part of the time and made two successful forward passes, each resulting in a touchdown.
