...their heads, listen to “The Waitress,” which describes the daily routine of a waitress from the perspective of a homeless customer who’s getting maltreated and wants to die and “come back as a cockroach in [her] tin cup.” If nothing else, “The Waitress” shows fans that Slug spends his days empathizing with homeless people looking at waitresses in cafés, while producer Ant is busy conjuring up ways to work flutes beautifully into hip-hop tunes. ...selection of comical shorts, some of which featured Conrad himself in front of the camera. French filmmaker Marie Losier, who directed Conrad in some of these films, was also present. Many of the shorts depicted absurd situations and had a trippy feel. In one, actors emerged from a metal tin of spaghetti wearing pink dresses and were doused in tomato sauce. Then, the container blasted off into space like a spaceship. Alongside election posters for Robert Mugabe, unseen hands scrawl messages to the President. "Chinja Maitiro" reads one: "Change Your Way." Another declares: "Zuakwana," meaning "Enough." Nearby, a picture of the 84-year-old Zimbabwean leader has been defaced with blood-red tears and underneath is written the word: "Cheat." These are ominous signs for the despot who has ruled Zimbabwe for 28 years. But there are other, more urgent ones emerging elsewhere...
