...tinnk that the pact corresponds with our own ideas in the Socialist Party to effect a change in the country, but with prudence, paying attention to our geographical situation and respecting freedom and pluralism. Foreign observers are deeply concerned about the continuing presence of the military. As I myself have a civilian background,I can understand that. Don't forget that in Portugal we emerged from a fascist regime that lasted half a century, and we have just put an end to colonial wars that lasted 14 years.
