...screaming reel in one lightning burst. They have even been known to rush a boat and leap over the fisherman's head in a frantic effort to escape. The battle may last anywhere from 15 min. to an hour-and steelies get more tricky as they tire. Then they will bulldog to the river bottom and jam their heads in the gravel until the hook rubs out or the line is chaffed...

...many years ago, snow tires were little more than an oddity on U.S. highways. About all they did then was whine; now they are booming. This year the tire industry will sell 12.5 million of them compared with only 3,850,000 as recently as 1957. To keep the boom going, it has brought out a revolutionary type of snow tire: one with tiny metallic studs imbedded in the rubber to increase traction...

...combinations that would start reacting as soon as they came in contact. Hybrids have no such difficulty. Their fuel can be hopped up with a high proportion of high-energy powdered metals or metallic hydrides, but in the absence of an oxidizer, they remain as inert as an auto tire. The oxidizer may be a fiercely reactive fluid such as OF2 (oxygen difluoride), but since it stays in its own tank until needed, it behaves itself. When the two components come together, they burn with extremely high specific impulse, the measure of rocket power. Best of all, say their boosters...
