After one man was out, Harlan reached first base on Baker's muff; Toler fouled out to Allen; Cooper made a base hit, but Shaw went out by Coolidge to Smith, leaving two men on bases. For Harvard, Nichols made a base hit, but was forced out at second by Coolidge, who stole second. Baker fouled out to W. Moffat. While Phillips was at the bat Coolidge tried to steal third base, and Harlan, trying to catch him, made an overthrow and gave Harvard the winning...
...pole-vault was won by Toler, '85, Princeton, who holds the best record of 10 feet 1 inch. He had already tired himself by pulling on his tug-of-war team, but nevertheless vaulted in magnificent form making 10 feet. Harriman, '83, Princeton, was second, stopping at 9 feet 6 inches. Soren failed at 8 feet and did not vault in his usual form. Toler's style of vaulting was very different from that of the other competitors. He did not seem to rely so much on his run and threw his body largely with his arms...
Harriman, '83, will probably try the burdle-race, high jump and pole-vault. In these events he has records of 18 1-5, 5.6 and 9.11. Harriman, '85, will also go into the running high. He is about as good as his brother. Toler has the college record in the pole-vault, 10 ft. 1, made in the recent Princeton games. He stopped at this height only because the bar could be raised no more...
