It’s telling that the first thing that comes to mind is not: “Because 345 soldiers have been killed, and the death toll is mounting...,” “Because hundreds more have sustained serious injuries...,” “Because our troops are so stressed that there have been abnormally high rates of suicide in the military...,” or “Because men and women in uniform have been kept away from their friends and family for months...
Because 345 soldiers have been killed, and the death toll is mounting. Because hundreds more have sustained serious injuries. Because our troops are so stressed that there have been abnormally high rates of suicide in the army. I hold no brief for Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, but I support them in this. The daily death toll of allied troops is heartbreaking, but it will be worth it in the end. I am the father of a British soldier who served in Northern Ireland during the worst of the "troubles," so I know how soldiers' families feel. Mick Timson Caistor, England...
These last two weeks of intense rioting, looting and over 65 deaths have left the landscape littered with destroyed toll booths and cut-down lamp posts and the major Bolivian city of El Alto with a severe food shortage. But this weekend, the protesters got their wish; President Sanchez has now fled to Miami...
