...Kippur, two Sundays ago, Azmi Bishara heard on a radio call-in show that a Jewish mob intended to torch his house. Bishara, a member of parliament from Nazareth, advocates an end to Israel's Jewish character in favor of "a state of all its citizens." He rushed home to evacuate his pregnant wife and two-year-old daughter, and at midnight a crowd gathered outside his home and stoned it. "Imagine if Arabs had attacked the house of a Jewish member of parliament," says Bishara. "They would have shot them. At my house, the police were just trying...
...think back to last week. Then, without any prior warning, the youth of Jericho were on their way to torch the city's "Peace unto Israel" synagogue, a modern structure built above a 7th century Byzantine mosaic floor depicting Jewish symbols. The synagogue is exclusively under Palestinian control. I always use it as an example of how Palestinians and Israelis must live together. I rushed to the place. There were hundreds of people in the crowd. The Palestinian security commander of Jericho was standing in the middle with about 50 policemen, trying very hard to push the crowd back...

The arsonists come to your doorstep as homeless men looking for shelter, and they don't leave. See it for the Greek chorus of firemen choreographed by James Carmichael. Or for the all-star cast which includes Alexis Burgess and Emily Knapp. Or for McClelland's original production which includes video and slide projections to set the scene and perhaps a real fire to torch the scene...

Consequently, at midnight, the torch was dimmed and stadium lights were turned off. Visitors were assured that the moths are harmless if ingested--tasting "somewhere between a pecan and a walnut...
...hard at Camp David. Indeed, the high-stakes battle for control over Jerusalem that began at Camp David when the sticking point became whether Israelis or Palestinians would have sovereignty in those parts of the city captured by Israel in 1967 has sparked a region-wide fire that could torch much of the progress all sides have made thus far. The current violence illustrates just how untenable the deal on Jerusalem offered by Israel at Camp David would be for Palestinians, and yet Barak will likely be forced now to retreat from even that offer...
