Like "RoboCop" and "Basic Instinct," "Hard Target" went through the same tortuous wrangling with the MPAA ratings board; a prologue to the release of "naughty" films which became trite with the blatantly orchestrated flap over "Sliver." Reportedly, "Target" had to be whittled at seven times before it could earn an "R" rating...
Just a day earlier, Clinton became the first President in history to fire an FBI director when he put an end to the tortuous, scandal-plagued tenure of William Sessions with two short phone calls: the first to tell Sessions he was dismissed, the second to add that it was effective immediately. Particularly notable are Joel Derfner as Tobias, Carolyn Rendell as the Beggar Woman and Adam Feldman as Beadle Bamford. Derfner is almost a little too campy and needed to project more but his wide blue eyes and clear tenor are perfect for the waif befriended by Mrs. Lovett. Rendell, a Crimson contributing reporter, is a terrific actor and the complexity of her music allows you to forgive the occasional...
