Captain Buell Wins Toss...
Buell won the toss from Jordan and chose to defend the north goal with the choppy wind at his back. After Hammond had caught the opening kickoff and had advanced to the 30-yard line, the University and Yale both adopted a kicking game with Hammond, aided by the wind gaining on each exchange. Finally O'Hearn punted to the Crimson, the ball glanced off Gehrke's leg, and Owen caught it on the run. Then followed the dazzling feat which was the sensation of the game. ...kicking duel opened the second half, but finally Yale attempted a forward passing game, and after a neat advance of 25 yards, Buell intercepted a toss from O'Hearn meant for Jordan. Again the kicking game started, but after two exchanges O'Hearn made a fair catch on the Crimson's 45-yard line. Yale decided to try an on-side placement kick, but just as the ball left O'Hearn's foot, Eastman, rushing up, blocked it, knocking it toward the Yale goal. Then followed a desperate chase, but the first two Yale men misjudged in their attempts...
...scrimmage with the Freshmen started at mid-field. Owen gained five yards on a line plunge and Chapin followed with gains of two and five yards respectively. Then the Crimson opened its forward pass attack and a toss from Buell to Fitts netted the remaining 32 yards to the goal line...
