...growing traffic in "death tourism" is an indictment of a health-care system that seems to incentivize everything except the peaceful death to which we all aspire. But I'm not sure the solution is to invite Dignitas to open a clinic down the street from every hospital. Advances in palliative care mean that those last years of life do not have to be a moral, medical and financial nightmare. I respect Sir Edward's right to make what his manager called a "typically brave and courageous" choice. I just wish he'd had better choices...
...bazaaris are certainly unhappy with the current climate, which is bad for business. Tourism has almost vanished, with foreigners' visits to the enormous carpet section of the bazaar falling off sharply since June. But Iranians still fill the covered passages of the bazaar to buy everything from designer chadors to Chinese-made rice cookers. One shop owner estimated that about 70% to 80% of the bazaaris - owners, managers and workers - quietly sympathize with Mousavi. The remainder, though, loudly voice their support for Ahmadinejad. The government intends to support these sectors by providing financing, improving the capabilities of state research institutes and other measures. "We are keenly aware these industries in five to 10 years will be the major industries...

And the p.r. nightmare promises to get only worse when Berlin hosts the World Athletics Championships from Aug. 15 to Aug. 23. If everything goes to plan, S-Bahn will have some more trains up and running by Aug. 9 - but services won't return to normal until December. Many Berliners, including...
