...Tout le monde was talking about it. Well, tout le fashion monde anyway. Yves Saint Laurent was in the front row of the Christian Dior men's show last month, sandwiched between his business partner Pierre Berg* and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault. It may not seem like a big deal-Saint Laurent used to be the designer for Christian Dior, and the designer having the show, Hedi Slimane, once worked for the Yves Saint Laurent label. But Saint Laurent never showed up at one of Slimane's shows before. In fact, Saint Laurent has reportedly attended only one other fashion...

...charge of the transition but allowed him to install allies atop both the Treasury and Defense departments and place former aides at choke points throughout the government. After Bush's smooth first week in office, it was Cheney who appeared on the Sunday talk shows to tout the Administration's success. Toss in enough gorgeous blue-grass music to make the movie's CD a must-have, and you get prime, picaresque entertainment. It celebrates the chicanery of the human spirit, the love of raillery and rodomontade...

Debates about environmental preservation and conservation often center around the role of the sentient market. Adherents of Adam Smith tend to tout the unfettered market as the means to environmental salvation, believing that eventually the price of a good reflects its true costs. Environmentalists scoff at this logic for a multitude of reasons: Some believe that economics is bunk since it's largely based on (what to them appears) untenable assumptions, others criticize free market solutions because of the incredible difficulty in valuing the environment. Still, most environmentalists believe that political will and the action of individuals is necessary...
