The pair who play Katharine and Petruchio were once stormily married and are still snarlingly in love, and the cuffing and spitting in their performances are more intense than Shakespeare's script requires. This one is followed by a ballet number on the same theme which employs every cliche of dance and plot. It is very well danced by Viola Essen, but Markova couldn't make choreography interesting...

He does the commonplace with a flourish and the spectacular by mistake. He is at his best when he pulls the wrong tooth and when he swaggers around town under the impression he is a dead shot...
