Things were a bit calmer Sunday, but Saturday night, barely controlled panic reigned as people flooded stores for supplies and took to the highways, slowing interstate traffic to a crawl. Steven Grabert, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, said he and his wife were alarmed when Gustav rapidly gained strength Saturday afternoon and were glad they left early - it took them six hours to make the 138-mile drive. ...Over the weekend, Louisiana and Mississippi temporarily changed traffic flow so all highway lanes led away from the coast, and cars were packed bumper-to-bumper. Stores and restaurants shut down, hotels closed and windows were boarded up. Some who planned to stay changed their mind at the last second, not willing to risk the worst...
