...tragic police stories continue to unfold in New York City and Los Angeles, I'm reminded of the opening lines of A Tale of Two Cities: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." In both cities, after decades of steady increases, crime rates have fallen dramatically--due, in no small measure, to the efforts of the police. Yet at a time when they might expect to be glorified for that success, they find themselves vilified for some of the tactics and strategies used to achieve...
...destruction of their homes. A staggering number of more than 80 Christian churches and monasteries destroyed by the Albanians since KFOR's rule began in Kosovo, did not receive much attention either. Sadly, the story of Arkan's death attracted far more interest than the story of a tragic Albanian attack on a Serbian refugee bus "protected" by KFOR or other stories of daily killings...

They won the World Series that year, and last year Strawberry beat the odds again and returned to help the hated Yanks squeak by the surging Red Sox and ultimately win yet another championship...
...Korean cease-fire. Then he went to Saigon: "I remember the French generals with all their spit and polish giving us a two-hour briefing on how they were going to win the war in Vietnam." It would be President Ford who inherited the final convulsion of that tragic war, made indelible by the pictures of desperate Vietnamese on a rooftop stairs trying to get on a departing helicopter. Ford insisted that a replica of the stairway be set up in his Grand Rapids, Mich., museum...
