Ludvik Vaculik's novel The Guinea Pigs (NY: Third Press) is a most brilliant venture in the Kafka-esque vein. Like Joseph K. in The Trail, Vaculik's hero is a bank employee. He lives a petty monotonous life with his wife Eva, "two tolerable little boys" and a couple of newly acquired guinea pigs that soon become the center of the family life. Later he elaborated: "I meant that people who don't agree with the way the Government does things shouldn't cooperate with it. I don't intend to break the law, but I'm just not going to cooperate with...

Sale charged that Connally had not only accepted but had actually solicited the money from Lawyer Jake Jacobsen, who was a go-between for the Associated Milk Producers Inc., the nation's largest dairy cooperative. The evidence, claimed Sale, would show that the money "left a trail of footprints ... to Mr. Connally." The prosecution has documented its case with bank records and logs of meetings and phone calls between Jacobsen and his old pal Connally...
