Whenever possible I hung out with Robert Levy,who lived downstairs from me, a sure bet forcigarettes and good company. Robert was a transferfrom Oberlin and a die-hard New Yorker, whosestriking looks and blase attitude suggested bothintense individuality and worldliness.
