If people stayed at home more, there would be a surge in many types of goods, from TV sets to parlor games; although people might avoid long-distance trips, they might well flock to closer resorts and motels. If people drove less, it would be logical to give gasoline a lower weighting in the CPI, thus reducing the impact of a gas tax on wage escalations...
