...another sitcom widow in discreet heat in The Partridge Family, the saga of a Cowsills-like pop sextet. The show is carried by Danny Bonaduce, who has the showbiz cunning and Manhattan mouth of a David Merrick-in the body of a freckled, redheaded ten-year-old. Clap-Trapp though it was, the Partridge premiere never got as icky as another show-biz-set sitcom, the late (1953-65) Danny Thomas Show, which has now been exhumed as Make Room for Grandaddy. The same old cast is back, but in TV's Age of Relevance, it is over...

...would be fun to have Christmas trees decorated to the specifications of various celebrities. Television's Smothers Brothers' tree is a roost for 50 peace doves. Socialite-Artist Gloria Vanderbilt Cooper's tree is a collage of gingham swatches and lacy Christmas cards. Baroness Maria von Trapp directed her tree be festooned with homemade cookies-even sent the recipes along. ...Florida's Steve Spurrier, 21, and Richard Trapp, 20, have a simple system of signals: whenever Flanker Trapp sees that he is not being "double-teamed"-meaning covered by two defensive backs-he nods to Quarterback Spurrier, who immediately throws to him. A 9.8-sec. sprinter who is most dangerous on flat passes, Trapp has caught 31 passes for 489 yds. and six touchdowns, is one of the main reasons Florida is ranked No. 8 in the nation. Frank Jackson, an end on the pro Miami Dolphins, says Spurrier is "already better than a bunch of passers in both...

...Your excellent story on the recorder [July 15] was incomplete. Many Americans, including me, heard their first recorder played by the Trapp family in the late '40s. The impact of that group continues to be felt in many recorder groups now playing. What a pity that Sound of Music ignored the recorder completely...
