Fonda skillfully portrays an ex-commercial actress trying to get away from the trap of cute feature stories. Her professionalism shows as she plants a huge smile on her face on camera, while inwardly seething because her boss killed the nuclear accident story...

...Three Sisters. Anton Chekhov's masterpiece hits the Loeb Mainstage this week in a new translation and what director Peter Sellars calls a "realistic" treatment. "I've tried to open Chekhov up, and allow as many of the meanings through as possible," Sellars says, and the new translation by Maria Markhof-Belaev and him should go far toward that end--it's much more literal than the Three Sisters you've seen before, more faithful to Russian idiom and Chekhov's word patterns...

Here again Chéreau's treatment, often strikingly effective in its own terms, followed Berg's structure erratically. He identified two of Lulu's customers with her former lovers but not the third. Where Berg set Lulu's grisly end in an attic, Chéreau was led by his monumental staging scheme to place it in what looked like an abandoned subway station...
