Many major airlines view the trend away from standard fixed fares with varying degrees of horror and resignation. Despite the sameness of the scene, there's another difference in this year's freshmen, one that can only be perceived by talking to them. It is the continuation of a trend that started several years ago, part of the incredibly overwritten "new mood on campus," which is now the old mood.
