November has been a busy month for Cingular, which launched the Sync music phone and BlackJack Windows Mobile smartphone, both by Samsung, and then the eagerly awaited Palm Treo 680. My original intention was to review the Treo 680, but I decided there just isn't enough to say about it: it's no slimmer than its predecessors, and Cingular will have to pack better, user-friendly e-mail software into it if it's going to attract non-corporate types, or indeed anybody but Palm customers in search of a replacement to their Treo...

...need mobile e-mail, but would go for it provided it wasn't an inconvenience. Nokia's new E62 isn't perfect, but out of the box it has many user-friendly traits for ordinary people - those who haven't been joined at the hip to a BlackBerry, Treo or Windows Mobile device for years...

...going to beat the Pearl in a beauty contest, but the 5-oz. E62 fits into jacket pockets or purses just fine-it's definitely thinner than a Palm Treo. Fresh from positive psych, the Starbucks sipper snags a double tall caramel machiatto (non-fat, sugar-free, obv) from her favorite cuttie barista. Inside her oversized Louis Vuitton, she carries parking stubs from Newbury Street, Chanel lip gloss, and her über-essential Treo. She’s careful not to spill on her Sevens or her chinchilla-trimmed fitted jacket; after all, she can’t look a mess at her 3 o’clock with Gino. He doesn’t give last-minute appointments to just anyone...

...Mobile Sidekick has been making friends ever since its launch in 2002, and why not? Celebrities and normal humans alike have discovered that the two-handed device, with its characteristic swivel screen, is a lot easier to use than a BlackBerry, Windows Mobile PDA or even a Palm Treo. It can pull off most of those other handhelds' e-mail and messaging tricks, and has a carefully crafted allure that even the famed Crackberry would envy (hip-hop styling + high demand + limited availability + Paris Hilton = must-have). Rather than burn out, this four-year old phenomenon is getting hotter with...
