...photography can, and the gum-print and pigment-print portraits that Steichen made of himself and his friends, reworking the image with eraser and fingers, seem like deliberate homages to Whistler. The melting halftones, the silvery highlights and atmospheric blurs (he would spit on the lens, or kick the tripod as the shutter clicked) are a poetic reprise of Impressionism, and one finds him cropping the image in imitation of Degas's paintings-themselves influenced by the arbitrary croppings of earlier photographs...
...Something like Claes Oldenberg's giant lipstick might have been more effective. The yard boasts little else sculpturally beyond John Harvard and Widener's lions: only recently did a Visual Studies course put up a kinetic soul sculpture in Sever quad. The bright red and immense size of the tripod-like pieces certainly don't go unmissed, and show what a vast and changeable space the quad...
...chronicles the further adventures of Jon Rubin (Robert De Niro), one of the stalwarts of the original film. Returned from Viet Nam, Jon gets right into the swing of things by buying a 16-mm. camera and becoming the protege of a pudgy master pornographer. He sets up his tripod in his tenement apartment and plays a Peeping Tom game of Rear Window with the tenants of the massive co-op across the way. He even winds up marrying one of them (Jennifer Salt). By this time his film career has gone sour, his debut in radical theater has been...

...Some of the parts are no larger than the pupil of an eye; others are as thin as a photo negative. Westinghouse designed the camera so that the astronauts, busy with important scientific experiments, would have a minimum of fussing to do once it was set up on a tripod on the lunar surface. Aside from switching from slow to fast scanning, no adjustments are necessary other than choosing between four fixed-focus lenses-a wide angle, a telephoto, a lens for lunar daylight and a lens for lunar nighttime...
